"In honor of its 35th anniversary, Women's Choir KYN is releasing its eighth recording, If I would talk to you. The album contains ethnic jazz composed and arranged by Mikko Hassinen, who received the Teosto award last year, for KYN and for KYN and the jazz ensemble (Manuel Dunkel, tenor saxophone; Ville Herrala, double bass and Mikko Hassinen, percussion). Ethnic jazz is a genre of choral music that KYN created with his commissioned works. The melodic elements and lyrics of our folk tradition are combined with jazz rhythms and harmony. The choir is both a soloist and a percussionist, says Kaija Viitasalo, a theme running through the album between their own thoughts. The arrangements make the words of familiar songs open up in a new way, in this moment. I hope that the listeners will stop at the lyrics, and listen to each other. KYN is an ambitious and skillful innovator of choral music in Finland. KYN is a sought-after performer at domestic and foreign choir festivals. In recent years, it has been invited to concerts in Latvia, France and Taiwan. The choir has also been successful in numerous international competitions. Most recently, KYN received a gold medal in the World Choir Games choir series."
