Description
There have always been overlooked artists/ composers in classical music because of their gender, race and/or socioeconomic status. It is essential to acknowledge that we are not seeing and hearing the whole (her) story due to this sidelining and discrimination of certain voices.
Finnish composers Ann-Elise Hannikainen, Helvi Leiviskä and Cecilia Damström have all contributed beautifully crafted works to the violin repertoire, which, unfortunately, are not widely celebrated.
Unrecorded, my album series breathes new life into the works of such marginalised Finnish composers by transforming their manuscripts into accessible recordings. Publishing these recordings is crucial; It will increase awareness and ensure such seminal works live on for future generations.
