New album TO THE STARS - TBB LIVE! contains Kari Kompa's big band music, performed by the Tampere Big Band led by Kompank and led by Juha Untala. The recording was made at TBB's Komppa concert and the result is a stylishly edited multi-channel format, one of the most exciting big band records of the moment, it's a wonder if your feet don't start shaking. This album makes me feel good!
Famous jazz composer Kari Komppa started his career in the early 60s in Marjatta Leppänen's band in Tampere. In the 70s, the Break Big Band he led, for which Komppa wrote a lot, was one of the most important jazz orchestras in our country. The highlight was winning the composition competition of the European Broadcasting Union EBU in 1981 with the song TETHYS.
The album includes the songs Towards heights (1975), 458 R.T. (1975), Kontrasteja (1975), Tethys (1981), Makumoka (1982/2007), Blues 26 (1988), Aldebaran (1977/1997) and Saxlix (1978).
In 2006, the Tampere Big Band returned to its original home at the Tampere Conservatory, starting an active season by celebrating its 21st anniversary. The celebration concert was played in Pyynikkisal in October 2006. The incarnation of Kari Kompa's works took place on February 6, 2008, the conservatory's trumpet lecturer Juha Untala was the conductor in both concerts. The Tampere Big Band was founded in the fall of 1984 by the wooden men Raimo Sarmas, Jarno Sinisalo and Risto Tanner.
Jukka Eskola (tp), Masa Orpana (sax), Jukka Hänninen (sax), Petri Nieminen (sax), Lauri Hannu (g) & Aki Rissanen (p) and Chamber Orchestra Prospero play as guest soloists on the album.
