The Tongue-Twister
Johan Ölander Quartet is a jazz quartet led by drummer Johan Ölander, which also includes Ari Polojärvi (guitar), Hannu Hiltula (keyboards and saxophone), Vesa Saloranta (bass) and Johan Ölander (drums). The band's debut album Always Afterwards (Alba ABCD 281) was released in autumn 2009 and has been well received by both the media and listeners.
With the new album The Tongue-Twister, the band has taken a step forward. Bold, swinging and catchy are the words that can be used to describe the new album. The music played by the band is Johan's handiwork. In terms of style, it could be comprehensively called "contemporary jazz", but jazz all the same. The songs focus on strong and catchy melodies, which does not mean that rhythm and swing are not important - after all, Johan is a drummer. Influences on music have also been sought from other places than jazz, because the world is full of great music that knows no boundaries. All members of the band have a long professional career in the field of music behind them.
• The album features saxophonist Will Vinson from New York as a guest star

Twister · The Tongue
”[…] Nyt pari kuukautta sitten ilmestynyt uusin, The Tongue Twister, kuulostaa enemmän nykyaikaisen jazzin ilmaisulta, rohkean groovaavalta ja svengaavalta. Levyn kymmenen kappaletta ovat kaikki Johanin tuoreita uusia sävellyksiä. […] JÖQ:n esitys on rehevää jazzia yhtä kaikki, luistavaa sellaista, johon on lisätty mukavaa ja tarttuvaa soundia maailmanmusiikista. Siinä ei ole minkäänlaista uhmakkuutta, vaan kaikki panostus on laitettu melodiseen esittämiseen hyvällä rytmillä.”
