KYN will release a new album in March, Outo kantele 10 February 2018 KYN will release their ninth album, Outo kantele, in March. The album published by Alba Records is a tribute to Jukka Linkola's music. It contains two sets composed by Linkola for KYN: Loitsut and Outo kantele. In honor of the album release, Sulasol publishes both works as sheet music. The eight-part Spells series was inspired by the similarities that Linkola found while researching the songs and spells of Indian tribes in the Lake Michigan region and old Finnish spells. These influences gave birth to a series whose music has joy, playful and life-flavored expression, and simple, jewelry-free beauty. Spells is a praise to nature and man, to all everyday miracles, coincidences, work and of course love. In the album launch concerts, Loitsut is transformed into a stage piece under the direction of Janne Marja-aho, which combines music, movement, light and image as equal elements. The series is colored by vibraphonist Panu Savolainen. Mika Venhovaara is responsible for the lights and VJ Hellstone for the live visuals. The album's title piece, the Outo kantele series, which has delighted as far as France and Taiwan and charmed even the competition judges, is heard on the album for the first time in its entirety in seven parts. Linkola has adapted the texts from Kantelettare's verses and brought a dose of bold cabaret spirit, powerful, even somewhat theatrical expression and a touch of jazz swing to the Kalevala world. Originally composed for a jazz band, accordionist Johanna Juhola and pianist Kirmo Lintinen star on the album and in concerts. With this album, KYN again looks to the future and creates a vision of what Finnish female choral music can be.
