The new album Nordic Violin Music contains works for violin and piano that have remained hidden until now by four Nordic composers, and it is now time to bring them to the fore.
Among the "forgotten gems of music" selected for the album by violinist Annemarie Åström, the world premieres include Berceuse by Finnish violinist-composer Agnes Tschetschulin (1859-1942) and Sonata for violin and piano, op. 6, where Emil Holmström is heard as pianist.
The other two works on the album are the Swedish Tor Aulin's (1866-1914) best-known chamber music composition Fyra Akvareller, which is a classic in Swedish violin literature, and the Norwegian Christian Sinding's (1856-1941) Romance in D major, op. 79 no. 2, an attractively and skillfully constructed piece of chamber music for violin and piano, in which each instrument in turn gets space for a more soloist approach.
Suomalaismuusikot tekivät erinomaisen teemalevyn
”Viulisti Annemarie Åström (s. 1977) on levyttänyt tyylikkään kokonaisuuden pohjoismaista viulumusiikkia.
[…] Levyn klassikkopuolta edustaa ruotsalaisen Tor Aulinin Neljä akvarellia , joissa Åströmin Guarneri soi tavattoman kauniisti; siinä on samettinen, suorastaan nuhainen ääni, josta Åström häpeilemättömästi nautiskelee.

There’s a good balance between the known and the unknown
in this release, and it’s almost always the latter that
gets the collecting juices flowing. So let’s take Bengt
Carlson first. Born in 1890, he studied in Helsinki and then,
before the First World War, in Paris as a student of d’Indy.
