Description
On Kirsi Poutanen’s new album Kuulin kui Helizi fado, the saudade of Portuguese fado is combined with Finnish melancholy and longing from the Karelian runic songlands. My Karelian background has led me to look for commonalities between these cultural concepts and to find a musical form where they feed into each other.
For this recording, texts have been selected partly intentionally, partly intuitively, whose themes tell of the human experience in the midst of chaos and change. How doesit feel when a community rejects or peoples are forced to leave their birthplace due to war, oppression and destruction. When, amidst sorrow and death, love, consolation and a
strong desire to continue the journey arise, the desire to live and create something new.
