Petteri Waris started playing the accordion at the age of six at the Lappeenranta music institute as pupil of Päivi and Seppo Valkeajoki. He studied at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki with Matti Rantanen and graduated from the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen with Master of Music and Konzertexamen degrees. In 2015 Petteri Waris won first prize in one of the most prestigious accordion competitions in the world, the International Accordion Competition Klingenthal in Germany.
Petteri Waris performs widely as soloist as well as chamber musician and he is a member of the contemporary music ensembles E-MEX-Ensemble in Germany and Lizard Ensemble in Austria. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, Vaasa City Orchestra, Vogtland Philharmonie, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen and Hagen Philharmonic Orchestra.
