Included in Telemann\u2019s catalog of works is the fantasy collection for viola da gamba, although the collection itself was thought to be lost for good until, in late 2015, one surviving copy was found in the private library at Ledenburg Castle in Osnabru\u0308ck in northern Germany.<\/p>\n
My travels with these works have been exciting and different because the pieces were indeed new: somewhat out of the norm, I had not previously heard them in concerts or on recordings. In these fantasies, one may hear snippets from some well-known works of the era, which were no doubt the composer\u2019s intentional compliments to his colleagues or even close family friends. All of these give the performer a unique connection to the time and place of the works.\u201d<\/p>\n
