About this release

Winterreise, Winter journey, takes the performer and the listener to the basic questions of humanity and existence. The human and social levels of the work do not lose their topicality.
On the first night of recording, on the way home from the recording studio, a lost man gets on the S-Bahn train from the Friedrichstraße station. The man's gaze wanders vaguely, his legs are bare. In Berlin, the sight is not uncommon; homeless outcasts are part of the streetscape of a big city. The man gets off at the next station and we follow his wobbly progress until the train's automatic doors close. The man is like the Leiermann of the last song of Winterreis, the lyre player: invisible, alone, on his way, without a destination.
