About this release

Turku Jazz Orchestra releases the first album in its history in collaboration with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and Johanna Iivanainen and Jukka Perko. In the collection I Could Tell You a Secret, premiered in spring 2015, the familiar and the more unknown pearls of film music have been arranged with a fresh touch for big band and symphony orchestra by Vellu Halkosalmi and his team of arrangers. On this disc, the old movie tunes reach the dimensions they could possibly have been made in the past, if there had been a sufficient number of players. Vellu Halkosalmi's arrangements and Johanna Iivanainen's lovely voice make old tunes shine again. Jazzrytmit/editing/17.11.2016 Album release 25.11.2016 "Johanna Iivanainen is as if made to be the singer for the Turku Jazz Orchestra's album I could tell you a secret. Add to this the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and saxophonist Jukka Perko as lead soloist, and you have a great quality and balanced album. However, the album is not about any traditional jazz, but one of its distant cousins, The album features classic songs from Finnish films arranged by Vellu Halkosalmi. is from Klaani from 1984. Among other things, Väliäikanen Kaksi Vihtoria (1939) is included. On this album, Halkosalmi's arrangements and Johanna Iivanainen's voice give new glory." Salon Seudun Sanomat/Veli-Matti Henttonen 14/1/2017 "Gems of Finnish film music! Johanna Iivanainen's wonderful vocals are accompanied by a full-scale symphony orchestra reinforced with a jazz orchestra and Jukka Perko's saxophone." Culture Accordion 4/2016

Reviews
