We are pleased and honored to present you our first joint album. The journey became longer than planned, when the covid-19 pandemic postponed the recording by a year. However, the record's history goes back further. Esa-Pekka Salonen's Stockholm Diary has been a popular work for a long time. Since this composition for the Stockholms Nya Chamber Orchestra has not been recorded before, its choice was self-evident. The work also perfectly reflects the cooperation between KPKO and me, as well as between Sweden and Finland.
When working on Verklärte Nacht, our source of inspiration was both Dehmel's poem and the orchestral and sextet versions of the work. We hope you will be enchanted with us by Schönberg's moonlit lovers and their physical and emotional journey through the night.
Sally Beamish was obviously mesmerized by Verklärte Nacht when composing her piece Glanz. It's a fascinating addition to a record that might as well have been called LA Diary: Salonen, Schoenberg, Beamish and Stravinsky have all lived in Los Angeles, and this record can be seen as a secret greeting from the other side of the Atlantic - free from constraints, as music and culture should be.
Releasing the first joint album as well as documenting and celebrating our collaboration has been very rewarding and has given additional inspiration for future musical adventures. But before that - enjoy your time with this album!
