Presentness

"Presentness is an ensemble formed by five solos and one duo.
Composing for one instrument is a very permissive, but at the same time limiting process. Contrasts, counterpoints and form characters are not possible by placing instruments or groups of instruments opposite or complementing each other. These aspects - if so desired - must be implemented by other means.
The form ideas of the compositions on the album are either processes where the musics need each other, or are seemingly independent of each other.
In the two works from the 1980s, Courbures and Exalté, gestures, episodes and fragments follow each other purposefully. The sections of the music are in a certain order because they need each other. The latter exists because the former has led to it. Cause and effect?
In the compositions Then when A-go, Animal II and 7 Haiku, gestures, characters or fragments follow one another without an obvious clear explanation. They just are, they are surprises. The listener may have an idea why this happened, but the music does not explain its existence.
The compositions of Tintinnio II (2001/2022) and X'Three (2001/22) combine both basic form principles. The first version of both works was composed approx. 20 years ago. The new versions are shorter than the originals, more abstract, perhaps also more surprising than the originals."
