The jazz quartet Olmarin Unioni gathered in the studio after almost twenty years in the summer of 2024. Four compositions by pianist Saku Järvinen and four compositions by double bassist Ville Rauhala were selected for the On a Night Like This (ABCD 483) album.
The early days of Olmari Union, founded at the turn of the millennium, were inspired by the hardbop and Blue Note sound of the 1950-60s. On a Night Like This, these roots are strongly present, but the style has been updated to look like its creators. In addition to strong swing, the music has freejazz romanticism, sincere melodiousness and sharp dissonance.
Like the previous records (Original Finnish Jazz, ABCD 192 and Peaceful Means, ABCD 215), behind the warm full analog sound is Studio JJ's recorder and mixer Juuso Nordlund.
