About this release

"Behind the stylish urban cover, the recordings of an exceptional composer persona from the last decades are revealed. […] Works like the captivating Boost or 7.13 interpreted by the Battalia baroque orchestra and singers are built on musical pieces that are presumably familiar and intuitive to the listener from various genres of popular music and also from eras of art music. From these the composer weaves addictive combinations in their own recognizable way. […] Electronic sounds and acoustic instruments have found their most ideal balance in the production."

”Tyylikkään kaupunkimaisen kannen takaa paljastuu poikkeuksellisen säveltäjäpersoonan äänitteitä viime vuosikymmeniltä. […]

Nuorvala is an iconoclastic outsider in Finnish contemporary music, unapologetically avoiding brooding landscapes in favor of a lively urban world, with borrowings from American minimalism and rock and pop music. He is also fascinated by unusual tuning scales, though, and exploits the microtonal uncertainties generated by these to provide a piquant instability to his predominantly tonal language. Boost, for instance, sounds very like a slightly malfunctioning minimalist piece, except that the…
