About this release

"Tittamari Marttinen's poem Käärmesormus (2001) speaks through the mouth of a woman who lived in Lower Burgundy in the late Middle Ages with reduced wisdom, with the most enchanting figures of speech. As role-playing poetry, it is well suited as the basis of a monologue opera. Harri Ahmaksen's Käärmesormus was premiered at the Kajaani poetry weeks in 2008 and has now been recorded by the Zagros Ensemble led by Ulla Raiskio and Petri Komulainen as an interpretation. The beauty of Marttinen's text is supported by the strong image of a woman in the Middle Ages, but the expression would be light and flexible, even if the singer performs them a little awkwardly. although there is no reference to the music of the 15th century. The combination of physical joy of life and melancholy can be felt in the enigmatic tones of the harp, celesta and harpsichord. The music offers contrasts to the dull tones of the plague, but it does not reach the same richness and depth that the text offers."

”Tittamari Marttisen runoteos Käärmesormus (2001) puhuu myöhäiskeskiajalla Ala-Burgundissa eläneen naisen suulla pelkistetyn viisaasti, lumovoimaisin kielikuvin. Roolirunoutena se sopii hyvin monologioopperan perustaksi. Harri Ahmaksen Käärmesormus kantaesitettiin Kajaanin runoviikoilla 2008 ja on nyt tuotu levylle Ulla Raiskion sekä Petri Komulaisen johtaman Zagros Ensemblen tulkintana.
