HISTORY OF THE ORGAN AND ORGAN ART 5
JUGEND - ART NOUVEAU
JAN LEHTOLA CHAMBER ORGAN
The fifth volume of the recording series JUGEND - ART NOUVEAU, the history of Jan Lehtola's organ and organ art, presents four instruments that are significant cultural-historical examples of the golden age of Finnish organ building. What is special about the organs on this album is that not one of them was built in a church space. Two of the instruments have been made for artists' workspaces, one for a factory ballroom and one for an influential businessman's private chapel. The program is based on Finnish national romantic compositions with the interpretative reservations that small chamber organs place on the works.
The publication contains a 52-page introductory booklet about organs, their history and compositions.

Reviews

  • Despite my initial disappointment with Chamber Organ sound, I have greatly enjoyed this luxuriously presented history of Finland’s versions of these instruments, with Lehtola and Koivusalo revealing the little instrument’s respective personalities so well.

  • URKUJEN JA URKUTAITEEN HISTORIAA 5

    JUGEND – ART NOUVEAU

    JAN LEHTOLA KAMARIURUT

  • Monet vaienneet yksityisurut saivat äänen

”Ahkerasti levyttävä urkuri Jan Lehtola on julkaissut vuoden kenties kiinnostavimman suomalaisen taidemusiikkilevyn.

  • Jugendin ajan kotimaisissa urkuherkuissa soi historia

”Historia vain havisee, kun Lehtola soittaa Akseli Gallén-Kallelan Kalelan pikku-uruilla taiteilijan hautajaisiin sävelletyn Sibeliuksen Surusoiton . Kyseessä on Sibeliuksen viimeinen soitinteos. Lehtola soittaa levyllä taitavaan tyyliinsä myös Visavuoren, Amos Andersonin museon sekä Kymin ammattikoulun juhlasalin urkuja. Tarjolla on intiimiä urkutaidetta kotoisissa tunnelmissa.”

  • Kamariurkujen hivelevää historiaa

Jan Lehtola tekee kulttuurihistoriaa levyllään, jolle on taltioitu urkuoudokkejamme, käytöstä pääosin pois olleita koti- ja kamariurkuja. […]

Äänitteellä kuullaan harvoin esillä ollutta, kansallisromantiikkaa henkivää urkumusiikkia. Frans Linnavuoren, Toivo Kuulan, Oskar Merikannon ja Selim Palmgrenin kappaleet välittyvät intiimin hyväilevinä.
