About this release

ABCD 370 Jyrki Linjama: Die Geburt des Täufers
An impressive opera about Johannes the Baptist
"Jyrki Linjama from Espoo has composed a remarkable piece of church music about the birth of Johannes Kastaja. [...] The work reveals something new every time you listen. Jyrki Linjama controls the layers of music history. [...] The soloists are excellent in their roles. [...] The record company Alba has once again made a Finnish cultural work a rarity for everyone to hear."

Reviews

The opera is beautifully sung by the four principals, Ursula Langmayr radiant as Mary, and Juhani Lamminmäki elicits some fine playing from the accompanying Soli Deo Gloria Chamber Orchestra.

The performance is quite good, and I enjoyed hearing the nice lyric soprano of Langmayr as Mary and the warm contralto of Paavola’s Elizabeth.

Kirkko-ooppera soi seremoniallisesti
Juhani Lamminmäen johtama Soli Deo Gloria -kamariyhtye soittaa osuutensa…
