About this release

"The Chamber Choir Krysostomos released its fourth album on Saturday 17 September 2016 at a concert held in Jyväskylä's Taulumäki Church. Most of the works are songs commissioned and premiered by the Chamber Choir Krysostomos, and this is the first recording of each song. The album's title piece Deesis is a sigh-like composition by Pekka Jalkanen, which is built on the basis of the texts of the Orthodox memorial service, or panihida. The work premiered in the Uspenski Cathedral in the year of the 10th anniversary of the Chamber Choir Krysostomos. Tuuli Lindeberg, Elisabet Petsalo, Jarno Lehtola and Teppo Lampela are responsible for the solo parts of the piece. In Lauri Mäntysaari's epic piece Pääsäisstikiirat, the solo parts are interpreted by baritone Sampo Haapaniemi." Website of Chamber Choir Krysostomos 30 August 2016

Reviews

  • ”Mikko Sidoroffin vetämä Kamarikuoro Krysostomos on maamme paras ortodoksinen kuoro.

  • ”Mikko Sidoroffin johtama kamarikuoro Krysostomos on tilannut aktiivisesti uusia teoksia, joiden tavoitteena on Sidoroffin sanoin pyrkiä ”löytämään uusia ilmaisutapoja ortodoksisen kirkon pyhille teksteille”. Ilmaisukeinojen tienviittana tuntuu toimineen ainakin Einojuhani Rautavaaran Vigilia (1971), jota ei ehkä enää voi sanoa uudeksi, mutta ainakin oivaltavasti bysanttilaista perinnettä soveltavaksi. Tuosta lähtökohdasta voi syntyä hyvin erilaisia teoksia, kuten Henri Sokan kaksi hillittyä…
