Beautiful music from beautiful Naples
The new album Bella Napoli by Baccano, a baroque band made up of the foremost musicians of our country, features compositions by five composers who influenced Naples in the 17th-18th centuries. Soprano Tuuli Lindeberg interprets the cantatas of Domenico Scarlatti, Giuseppe Porsile and Alessandro Scarlatti, in addition, the sonatas of Francesco Mancini, Domenico Scarlatti and Nicola Porpora will be heard in varying compositions.
A few hundred years ago, the music scene in Naples was full of foreign masters who brought and took influences, notes, ideas. The importance of the nobility was also considerable. Apart from paying "customers" and "sponsors", a large number of them were also accomplished musicians. Under their patronage, enormous amounts of church music, madrigals, instrumental and vocal music were born in Naples to refresh the cultural life of Europe. Opera was an import in Naples for a long time, referred to as "Venetian". Over the centuries, the term "Neapolitan opera" must have acquired a greater meaning than the geographical definition implies.
Since 2003, the members of Baccano, who use period instruments, have performed together and separately at the most important domestic music festivals, they give concerts as members of different bands around Europe and play e.g. as soloists in our country's early music orchestras.
