About this release

Eskelinen's Bach flavor is great
"In his own Bach studies, guitarist Ismo Eskelinen has already progressed to the second record, but there is no trace of the difficult balancing act. Eskelinen plays Bach's music, not arrangements. Eskelinen leaves a few interludes in between and chooses even more natural material to play than on his previous Bach record. Eskelinen knows how to extract the essentials even from dense counterpoint, solves questions of key and register discreetly with capotasto and even more differentiates the different lines of music exceptionally clearly.
It's gratifying to note that compared to Eskelinen's previous Bach album, which is great in itself, the new one is even better. As experience accumulates, the desire to show off and over-trying has stopped, and what's left is what's really worth doing with the guitar to Bach's music."

Reviews

  • It all sounds quite convincing and surely is a delight to the ear.

  • His playing is strong, clear, expressive, and dependably beautiful—I find this even more satisfying than John Williams’s account on Sony and Sharon Isbin’s Suites on Virgin, as fine as those are.

  • The majesty of Bach’s music is well conveyed via guitar, and Eskelinen’s playing is sensitive and assured.

  • Finally, the guitarist’s arrangement of the chorale “ Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme ” (Sleepers Awake), BWV 645, with its fantastic texture and glorious harmonies arising from an exquiste interweaving of voices, provides a perfect end to a great recital.

  • Eskelisen Bach-maku on loistava

  • ” Ismo Eskelisen runsas kolme vuotta sitten ilmestynyt EMMA-palkittu Bach -levy saa jatkoa.
