Liisa Pohjola piano
A spectacular overview of pianist Liisa Pohjola's life's work appears as a three-CD collection. His repertoire has covered the entire spectrum of piano music, but he has had a particularly significant contribution as an interpreter of the piano literature of our time and as an inspiring muse for composers. Pohjola has persistently brought out the music of numerous Finnish composers - including Erik Bergman, Usko Meriläinen and Mikko Heiniö - and he has premiered dozens of works. As a musician, Pohjola is known for his unfailing musical instinct and exceptionally lively, temperamental performances. The collection's repertoire is compiled from Yleisradio's recordings over a period of 35 years (1969-2004). The album booklet contains Lotta Emanuelsson's work presentations with the artist's comments.
So we have a comprehensive and representative selection of recordings from the center of Finnish pianism, and at the same time, three discs present the pianistic development of one of our great artists in the most interesting way. Liisa Pohjola has been a key influencer of Finnish piano art as a teacher and role model.

  • This very welcome set gathers together a host of recordings of mostly short pieces by Finnish and 20th Century composers. With the exception of a handful of Haydn, Schumann, and Chopin, most of her repertory will be unfamiliar to all but a few of our readers. ... For readers inclined towards exploration, this set will point them in a few new directions.
